At What Age Should You Start Stressing About Skincare?

It’s widely known that skincare is the secret to keeping your skin looking fresh. It’s a message beauty companies have been reiterating for years, and, in fairness, there’s strong truth in that claim. In fact, celebrities, including Julia Roberts, swear that moisturizer is the secret to great aging.

But, when exactly is the golden age for finally getting your skincare routine sorted? Should you be getting stuck in during your pre-teen years, as some experts recommend, or are your thirties the most thriving time to tackle great skin? Keep reading for the latest lowdown on when you’ll really want to start stressing about skincare.

The vast majority of experts recommend getting started with skincare as soon as possible. The use of daily sun protection has proven especially essential for protecting pre-teens as young as twelve from needing to seek sun damage repair when they’re older. Equally, the use of skincare products including acne treatments and basic moisturizers, is recommended from puberty.

But that’s not to suggest teenagers need a full cupboard of skincare products. In fact, evidence suggests that excessive skincare routines this young can cause skin irritation and further problems like dry skin. At this age, one or two unscented, straightforward products is really all that’s necessary.

# 2 – What’s the ‘Right’ Age for Anti-Aging?

Skincare and anti-aging are somewhat synonymous these days, but when exactly do you need to start prioritizing the anti-aging element of this beauty duo?

Obviously, targeted anti-aging products simply aren’t necessary during your teen years, but some experts do recommend seeking skincare products that contain some starter anti-aging ingredients, including antioxidants and collagen creams.

But it isn’t until your thirties that anti-aging priorities should become a firm focus. At this stage, introducing skincare products that contain retinol or retinoids can make a huge difference. That’s because these ingredients continue to smooth and unclog your skin, while also boosting collagen and skin cell production. All of which will significantly help with the appearance of fine lines both now and moving forward.

But anti-aging products shouldn’t replace your basic skincare supplies, even in your thirties. Many older women still claim that their trusted drugstore moisturizer is still their best skincare secret! So, simply find a way to integrate anti-aging products into what you’re already doing.

# 3 – Caring for Aging Skin (Stuff you Didn’t Know)

Obviously, you should start making skincare more of a priority from your thirties onwards. But, once you reach fifty and beyond, collagen products aren’t the only additions you’ll want to prioritize.

In truth, aging skin is more likely to fall foul of everything from dry patches to skin tags. Skin cancer is also more of a risk as you age. That’s why you should also think about higher SPF sun products, and perhaps more hardcore moisturizers as you reach your later years.

When should you start stressing about skincare? The sooner, the better, but it’s never too late to start with these top age-related tips in mind!
