Clothing Holiday Gift Guide Made in Canada Tips

Feel Wonderful in the Right Wonderbra This Holiday Season

In 1939, the Canadian Lady Corset Company best know as WonderBra was founded. What started out as a small sewing shop in the heart of Montreal, has grown into one of Canada’s most iconic brassiere brands.

One thing that certainly hasn’t changed throughout the years is WonderBra’s mission to provide women with well-fitting, good quality bras.

Our WonderBra Experience

Last week, WonderBra graciously gave my sisters and I a day we will never forget.  We don’t get to see each other very often due to school, work, kids and well… life. But once reunited it was as though we had turned back the clock and we became a bunch of chatty, gitty teenagers!

We set course to WonderBra’s #1 retail outlet location where we obtained a personal bra fitting. We were also incredibly fortunate to each receive our very own WonderBra.

Be sure to read on as we share all the tips and tricks we learned to get a proper fitting bra. Furthermore, don’t forget to check out our selections below.

Choosing the Right Size

Your Bra Should Feel Like a Second Skin

A good-quality, well-adjusted bra in the right size can make all the difference, both in comfort and appearance.

Knowing what to look for when trying on a bra isn’t always obvious. Here are some tips to help ensure that you choose bras that fit you to a T.

Are You Wearing the Correct Bra Size?

Did you know that three out of four women wear the wrong size or do not properly adjust their bras?

Here are a few telltale signs: wrinkling in the cups, underwire poking the sides of your breasts, a band that rides up, cup spillage, slipping straps, or a bra that hikes up when you lift your arms.

Look your best and stay comfortable by choosing a bra that is fitted and adjusted to your body. Bra sizes vary as much as dress or pant sizes. Choosing the wrong size can impact your comfort, health and appearance. Since your body changes over time, WonderBra suggests that you get a bra fitting at least once a year.

Remember: Bra sizes are not standardized across brands, so the size you wear in another brand may not match up to your WonderBra size.

Which Hook Should You Use?

This is a common question, but something so many people get wrong.

When you buy a bra the loosest setting should be the most comfortable. The two tighter settings are simply there for when your bra stretches out with wash and wear. They allow you to tighten the back band so that you get the same support as you did initially.

1 – Determine Your Band Size

Take your measurements while wearing a non-paded, non-push-up bra so your breasts are as close to natural as possible. To reduce the risk of error, it is suggested that you get another person to measure you.

  • To determine your band size, stand up straight with your arms at your sides.
  • Holding the measuring tape parallel to the ground and just beneath the bust, measure from the back to the front.
  • The tape should be snug against the ribcage without feeling tight.
  • Check that the measuring tape is level in the back. (Parallel to the bottom of the band)
  • Take the front measurement directly under bust (ribcage). Round to the nearest whole number.
  • If the number is even, add four inches. If it’s odd, add five. Your band size is the sum of this calculation. (So if you measured 32 inches, your band size is 36. If you measured 33 inches, your band size is 38.)

2 – Measure the bust for cup size

  • To determine your bust size, stand up straight with your arms at your sides.
  • Keeping the measuring tape parallel to the ground, measure from back to front, holding the tape over the fullest part of the bust.
  • Hold the tape firmly, making sure that it doesn’t pinch or feel tight.
  • Check that the measuring tape is level in the back.

3 – Find your cup size

Subtract your band measurement from your bust measurement. Then use this simple bra size chart to find your cup size.

The Bra Extender

After getting my personal bra fitting, I wanted to say a very stern no to this accessory. However,  after a little bit of research I’ve learned that they can be much needed for some!

What are bra extenders?

Extenders simply make life a little more comfortable. Whether you’re in-between sizes or experiencing maternity weight gain, bra extenders give you the breathing room you need to tackle life’s other challenges. They simply attach to the hooks on your bra band, providing you a little more breathing room and extending the length of your favorite bra’s band.
