Whether you’re having a movie night for just you and the family or you’re inviting all your friends over too, it’s a great way to have fun on a budget. With more platforms releasing movies directly into your living room quickly after cinema release, it’s a great excuse to get cozy on the sofa with a bucket of popcorn.

But, just like any other event, movie night at home takes some planning. If you want to keep everyone happy, take a look at these simple tips.

Choose Your Movie Beforehand

How many times have you planned to watch a movie only to find yourself mindlessly scrolling through Netflix? By the time you’ve found something watchable, you’re too tired to put it on. If you want to do movie night with your family, pick the movie in advance.

Get everyone to make suggestions and go with the majority. That way, when you’re ready to sit down and watch, you know exactly what to look for and where to find it.

Set The Scene

A good movie night has everything you need within arms reach. Make sure you have plenty of snacks for everyone throughout the movie. If you can, lay it all out on a table in front of the sofa so no-one has to leave the room to get what they want.

If you’re making it a regular event, you could think about investing in a projection screen or sound bars so it feels just like the movies. Add a few cushions and blankets to make sure everyone is as comfortable as possible too.

Intermission

If your movie night involves young kids, you may find that they want to get up and grab more snacks or need to use the bathroom. If you don’t want to be pausing the movie every ten minutes, it can help to add an intermission half way through the movie. This is the ideal opportunity for people to get up and move around or get what they need.

The length of the intermission is entirely up to you but don’t leave it too long or you may find your guests lose interest.

Pajama Party

There’s always that one relative (or two) that falls asleep during the movie. If you have family or friends that you know will fall asleep during movie night, you can pre-empt it by inviting people to attend in their pajamas. If the kids fall asleep while watching the movie, all you need to do is carry them upstairs to their beds.

The more comfortable your guests are at movie night, the more likely they are to enjoy it. Even if they do sleep through the movie.

Admission Tickets

If you want to go all out, why not think about giving your guests tickets as invites. You can design your own movie night tickets online and hand them out to family and friends with all the details included. You can reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone who forgets their admission tickets on the night.
