Creating More Storage Space at Home

In most homes, storage space is something that is at a premium. It isn’t likely that you have heard many people complain about having too many cupboards or a closet that is too huge, right? So that is something that is important to look at, and something that you can do with the spaces that you already have. So here are some ideas to give you some inspiration if you’re looking for some more storage at home.

Declutter

For starters, one of the first things to think about when it comes to storage at home is about getting rid of the things in your home that you no longer need. You will automatically have more space when there are fewer things in the home. Having a lot of clutter in the home can be quite draining, make cleaning hard work, and just generally be a little stressful. You could look up Marie Kondo when it comes to decluttering, and seeing what sparks joy. But going room by room can be a good place to start. If you work fast and then choose what to keep and what to donate or sell, then you can get through things quickly.

Simple Storage Solutions

If you look online at professional organizers, they will often recommend using things like clear plastic containers for when you need some extra storage. As the containers are clear, they allow you to see what you have in each box, and can mean sorting things into categories. If you are going to have these things on display, then prettier options, like wicker or decorative baskets can look better by still serve a purpose. You could always think about looking into custom storage solutions to make the most of the space that you already have. In your closet, for example, then it can be a great place for custom storage as it can be designed exactly for the space that you have, which is going to be different for different homes.

Think Vertically

A lot of people will look at their home and think quite right to left when it comes to storage. But there are a lot of spaces that we forget about. For example, there is space to use above your head, as well as down at your feet. Think about walls too, rather than just floor space. These areas might be better for things that aren’t needed everyday, as they may be a little trickier to access. But when styled well, it can look great in the home and be a good way to hide away the things that don’t need to be out all of the time. Stacking things can be a good idea too, as well as pretty baskets and so on, if the items are going to be on the shelf and on display.

The key to start improving the storage in your home is to start with things that are no longer needed, and then you can go from there, with a fresh pair of eyes on the storage that you already have at home.
